As they needed to raise money to maintain this homes, they asked her for different fundraising ideas. She came up with many, but the Board didn"t like any of them. So, finally she came up with the idea of running a Thrift shop, The Vintage Thrift Shop, and she developed a business plan with a 30 day exit strategy. Finally the Board approved the idea. All the items in the thirft shop are donated and other shops have agreeded to take their inventory if they need to close. Since they opened three years ago it"s always made a profit.  They have one paid employee, and everyone else is a volunteer. The Vintage Thirft Shop is located on Easton Rd, near Weinrich"s Bakery and the Willow Grove Bank. You can enter from Easton or Davisville Rd. The hours are Tues, Wed., Fri., Sat-10-5pm and Thurs. 10-6pm. How can we help them? They will take volunteer time, financial support and our old stuff. If you have a garage or closet to clean out-them will come and help you do it. Only things they can"t take are mattresses, and box springs.

5/1- Board Meeting

Program:

Russ Koerwer introduced our guest speakers, Peggy Myers and Officer Dan Buckley.

Dan spoke about the Abington Police Athletic League. The program here in Abington is held on Friday and Saturday nights at the Glenside Weldon School. This is considered their main base of operations, but they do have three 15 passenger vans, so they are able to take the kids to different venues. Some of the activities that they do are: bowling, floor hockey, snow tubing at Camelback Mtn., Phillies Games, Eagles Training Camp, etc. On an average night in Winter they get 110-125 children out aged 12-17. Once the kids turn 18, many of they stay on to help now as volunteers to help they younger ones. Children younger than 12 can attend if they have an older sibling in the program and if the parents agree to volunteer at least 5hrs. a month. They main requirement is that you are an Abington or Rockledge resident.

Peggy spoke about the need for funding, as the program gets no tax payer money from the Township. They run the whole program on sponsorship funds. They have a Golf Outing coming up on Monday April 28 at North Hills Country Club and the Food Festival is set for Tuesday October 14th at Philmont Country Club. Finally they are trying to raise enough money to purchase or build their own building to use for the kids along the Easton Rd. corridor.

Once again it was a wonderful program-good job Anne!
